Development in genetics and related medical sciences has triggered discussions about "Ageing process". Sedentary life style and stress have lead to out burst of non-infectious diseases which have psychneuroimmunological relations. Demographical data revealed through many surveys by government and non-government organizations have shown a significant rise in these disorders. Here,I would like to focus some evidence based nutrional intervention to prevent fast ageing process.
OXIDATIVE DAMAGE: PREVENTION BY NATURAL AGENTS
Dietary research on the impact of food and beverages on human health has been globally dominant in the last decade.
Falavonoids-a group of phenolic compounds occurring abundantly in vegetables,fruits and green plants has attracted special attention as they show high anti oxidant property.The Antooxidants are known to prevent cellular damage caused by reactive oxygen species.
Catechins-are highly potent flavonoids present in tea, serves perhaps as the best dietary source of natural antioxidants.Unites States Department of Agriculture(USDA) is cuurently engaged in precisely quantifying various flavonoids in fruits using modern analytical techniques. Approximately 30% of the tea solids in a typical infusion is composed of flavonoids. where as less than 5% of water soluble solid extracts of tea is formed by flavonols like Quercetin,Kaempferol.Myricetin and their glycosides of catechins, epigallocatechin gallate(EGCG) is present maximumally (more than 10% of dry weight) in green tea. It is also found in black grapes,red wines,apples and chocolates.(1,2,3)
